Classification by level
In Group Yellow, children are no longer divided solely by age, but also by level. This means they are assigned to a subgroup within U5 that matches their development.
● Explorers
For children who need extra support with motor skills or concentration. We focus on basic skills, self-confidence, and fun – at a leisurely pace and with plenty of repetition.
● Challengers
For players who have mastered the basics. They can participate well in a group, understand instructions, and have control over their body and the ball. We challenge them with technique, game insight, and teamwork.
● Champions
For children who excel in their technique, dedication, and learning ability. They are extra motivated and train at a higher pace with more complex exercises, where independence and mental acuity are central.
This division helps every child train at the right level, with sufficient challenge and successful experiences.
Core focus in Group Yellow (U5)
The main lesson objectives per training are:
- Technique Training: The basics of soccer technique are refined and expanded. (Drill of the month)
- Game insight & Situation recognition: Children learn to anticipate and make choices in game situations.
- Passing and shooting forms: Developing accuracy and power in passes and shots.
- Coordination & agility: Improve quick feet, balance and body position.
Each training session contains exercises that combine these four elements to fully develop players. In addition to the core principles of each training session, we work on a specific football skill each month. This ensures depth and progression.
What do we do during a training?
Each training consists of four fixed components, tailored to the age and experience of the player.
Example training day
- Technique: Dribbling at speed, changes of direction, shooting.
- Game insight: Exercises with 1-on-1, 2-on-2 and use of space.
- Reaction time: Coordination and agility exercises.
- Fun: Final competition.
Through small competitions and game-oriented exercises, children are
continuously challenged to to actively think about their choices on the field. What is central to this phase?
- Technique: From dribbling to passing and kicking – children develop technique, ball control and insight into the game.
- Recognizing Game Situations: When do you play a 1-on-1? When do you pass, when do you dribble? Children learn to make smart choices in the game.
- Teamwork: Understanding teammates, opponents and use of space. We train not only with the ball, but also with the head.
- Self-Reflection: What went well? What could be improved? Children learn to think critically about their own game and choices – a skill for life.
Motivation: Football Growth Book
From U5 onwards, children switch to the Football Growth Book. In this book, trainers keep track of development per training.
